How far does your Blog to Reach?

This video makes me feel real small and makes me think “What are we doing here anyways?”

I think each one of us has a purpose in life. Each one of us has a passion inside of us. There is a reason each one of us is here in this universe. We all have thoughts and opinions and we should share them with people to make this universe a better place for everyone.

I think one of the amazing things about blogging is that you can communicate and share your thoughts with people around the world. You can do this right from your own living room, bedroom, den, Starbucks Cafe or anyplace you can get Internet access. I just find that simply amazing. What would our grandparents think?

The question is

How can you get your Blog to reach further across the Internet?

Well, I’m lucky if my Blog reaches the guy across the street. “Hey Mike want to read my Blog?”

The question is how to you do you get your blog to reach further across the Internet or the Universe for that matter?

Well here are just a few tips to get your Blog to reach further across the Internet:

1. Start Creating some Unique Quality Posts.
2. Tweet those Quality Posts that you created.
3. Revive some of your older Quality Posts that you created by Retweeting them:  Just the other day I retweeted some of my older posts. Much to my surprise I received some comments on them the next day.
4. Get out there and start making some Quality Comments on some other Blogs:  Not just the usual blogs that you visit, but some new blogs that you haven’t visited before.
5. Participate in Social Networks:  Like BlogEngage, Digg, Reddit, the Local Bar, Pub, Cafe or whatever it is you have in your area.
6. Engage in some Forums:  Could be a forum on your particular niche or go out on a limb and check out some different forums. Just stay away from those adult forums unless thats the kind of traffic you want :)
7. Place an Ad on Craigslist:  I used Craigslist to promote one of my other blogs. It is a blog that has different community events.  Well I posted some ads on Craigslist in the community section.  It actually worked to drive traffic.
8. Buy a Billboard sign and plaster your Website name on it:  Ok a bit expensive. You might want to wait unless you are Walmart.
9. Make flyers of your website address and stick them on Cars.
10. Paint your website address on the bumper of your Car.
11. Stand at an Intersection waving a big Sign with your Website Address. Heck while your at it wear a Chicken Suit. You might just attract more people.
12. Tattoo you Website Address on your Forehead:  While not recommended it sure is a conversation piece.  Oh and make sure you have a short website address unless you have a large forehead.

All right some of these ideas are a bit far fetched, but are they. Before the Internet how else would someone get the word out about their business.  How would they promote their name and their brand.  They would have to get their name out there anyway that they could. Going back to basics might just work.

So go ahead shoot off some satellites then pull out your telescope and watch your blog take off into the Internet Universe.

I’ve thought about going the bumper sticker route. If you have a domain that is short, easy to remember, and tops the results on Google, it could catch someone’s eye and lead to new, local traffic.

    Hi Kikolani!
Hey why not a bumper sticker Right? I actually have a one hour commute to work and was thinking I pass a lot of cars coming and going to work. Like why not. Short and sweet is good. As you said it makes it a lot easier to remember.

Jim, you could always get it tattooed on some topless waitresses. I reckon that would get the attention of the males. As for the women, drop some cards in places like shoe stores and stuff.

Besides, you can’t be doing that bad, you got my attention and I’m waaaaay down under :D

Topless waitress interesting….good thought. I like the shoe idea. Ok I just had 1000 business cards made up and I am going to all the shoe stores around town and I am going to shove a card in every shoe on the shelf. Lets see I could also write my website address on the bathroom walls too. “For a good time……..wait thats not what I want. I need targeted traffic that want to learn about blogging.

OMG, Sire, “shoe stores and stuff”? LOL – last time I bought shoes was…a really long time ago. What a cliche. Try the office supply store. Cell phone kiosk. Gadget store. Wal-Mart. Grocery store. Everyone needs food.

See, Jim? Sire’s right – and he’s provided the bridge for both of us to leave comments on each other’s blogs!I followed the hand-crafted links from his delightful Journey to Bloggersville post and your comment on MY blog. Nice to “meet” you, by the way – I’m bookmarking this and I WILL be back!

That makes it a little harder mate. Other than paying for it I would do what I do, visit other blogs and leave good comments, helping people where you can along the way.

  4. Oh, don’t forget those new “car wraps.” I’ve thought of that, just to jazz up my car. Do you have any idea how many silver Honda Accords there are on the road? If only I’d known or noticed before I bought mine. It’s so HARD to find it in the mall parking lot!! I swear, next car I buy will be “catch-me-if-you-can-copper red”!

Thats another good one Holly! Car wraps now thats funny. I have seen those on cars. The car is one big advertisement on wheels. Now see with a nice silver honda accord you blend right in. You get one of those flashy red cars and the cops will notice you. I used to have a silver GTI. It was my little silver bullet.

So if you see a Jetta on the road that is wrapped with http://www.jimyjack.com that would be me:)

  5. Hey Jim, good article and nice video.

I think that the key is to focus just in creating good quality content and promoting it. It’s what all professional bloggers do.

I wish you a happy new year buddy.

Now this made me start thinking of ways for my blog to reach across the Universe and back… So far, I am getting white noise. Or maybe i should start small and do what you suggested. I think a shirt that says “I (heart) Zorlone.com” is a good start.

    Jim Hardin Reply:

Just thinking outside of the box is the way. The t-shirt idea is a great idea. It would get people to ask “What is Zorlone.com?” and make people talk about it. Of course as they say one of the best ways is to do what you did. Make a comment on someones blog :)

Thanks for dropping by and commenting.

Pretty to think so. Back when I was in college, on student government, we ran a campaign with buttons and everything. The buttons said “STAMP IT OUT!!” The idea, of course, was that people would be curious and come up to us and ask, “Stamp WHAT out?” The answer was “Apathy.”

Only they were all too apathetic to ask.

  11. Creative thoughts you have listed Jim. Why won’t you add to your list a t-shirt printed your website on it and with a catchy tag line that surely don’t miss to see the site. A shirt could go anywhere and could spread to many places. :)

    Jim Hardin Reply:

Wow good point! A t-shirt could work. Treat you blog like a buisness can go a long way. I see a lot of lanscaping companies have t-shirts with their names on them. What am I saying there are a lot of companies well practically every company has a t-shirt to give a way. :)
