Effective Communication is Key
I have been blogging for about 2 months now. Although I wish I could blog full time I have been doing it part time as I have a full time day job. I have really enjoyed blogging the last 2 months as I have met a lot of great people in the blogging community and look forward to continuing to blog into the future. Hey maybe someday I will be able to do this full time
What I wanted to tell you was something that has happened to me at work.
Lately, while at work, I have found myself reading and responding to emails a little differently. Before I started blogging regularly I have to admit as I would read through my emails at work I would just kind of glaze through them. If someone was asking me a question I would respond, but truthfully there wasn’t much meat to my response. Now since I have started blogging my response to emails has changed. When I say it has changed I mean it has changed for the better. Let me explain.
Now when I get an email I find myself reading through the email like I would if I was reading a post on someone’s blog. I read through it thoroughly, selecting points that I like about it and really think about how I want to reply back. Then I hit reply and I start my email reiterating points about the email that really interest me. Then I add any sound advice that I may have and give a pleasant thank you at the end. My point is that I have started to give quality responses to emails that I receive from people at work. What I have seen from this is people have been more responsive; they seem to respect me a bit more and are willing to work with me. This is a very positive thing. I believe this way of thinking has come from my blogging these last couple of months and what I have learned about the importance of leaving quality comments on other people’s blogs if you know what I mean.
What to take from this is that no matter what you are doing effective communication is key to building strong relationships. Whether you are making a comment on a blog post or responding to an email you received take some time to read though the post/email and do your best to respond back with a quality response. The best way to do this is to reiterate points of interest in the post/email. This is key as it shows that you have read the post/email. Then make quality comments about the post/email and give sound advice when you can. It’s all about reading, understanding, truly thinking about what you are going to say and responding in a professional manner. This goes a long way in building strong long lasting relationships with people. By communicating effectively you are building strong relationships that will last. Personally I notice a change in people when I communicate effectively with them and you will too. Give it a try in your everyday interactions with people as this works when you are talking with people too. I have to admit I am far from perfect when it comes to communicating effectively, but I am making improvements everyday
How do you communicate effectively with people?
