5 Free Ways to Drive Traffic to your Blog
So you have been building up some quality content on your blog, but what good is content if no one is reading it. So now you need to drive some traffic to your blog. Here are 5 free ways to drive traffic to your blog.
1. Leave Comments on other Blogs-Find other blogs and start participating in them by making comments. To ensure success with this make sure you leave a quality comment. In addition this also works best if you find blogs with a lot of traffic. Think about it if there is a lot of traffic on a blog and you make a comment anyone that visits that blog is a potential visitor to your blog. Believe me it works.
2. Participate in Forums-Find forums that are of interest to you or that are on the same subject of your blog and start participating in them. Again just like leaving comments on blogs to ensure success give quality information when you post to a forum. Once I started a thread on a forum and I drove a lot of traffic to my site.
3. Yahoo Answers-Signup and participate in Yahoo Answers. You can either ask a question or better yet you can answer a question. If you give quality answers to questions people will come to see your blog.
4. Tweet your Posts-Open a Twitter Account and each time you create a new post Tweet it. Now of course you need some followers before this can be effective, but a Twitter account is free and before you know it you will have some followers. One of the best ways to get followers is to place a Follow Me Twitter button on your blog.
5. Link up with other Bloggers-As you start to blog and visit other blogs and start building relationships with other bloggers you can ask them if they will put a link to your site on their blog. Now in return you should put a link to their blog on yours. I have done this and it has proven to be effective in driving referral traffic to my blog. I have a list of Friends going on my blog that you can see in my sidebar. I have to give credit to Isaac Yassar of GoBlogger.net. He turned me on to this idea and I do get a lot of referral traffic from his blog. Thanks Isaac!
Tip
Keep a journal of your daily blogging activities. It doesn’t have to be anything special just a plain Word document will do with the date and what you did on your blog today. That way when you see jumps in traffic you can look back at what you did during that time frame. This will give you an indication of what works to drive traffic to you blog. That way when you find something that works best you can build on it.If you read this post you will see a common theme here. What ever you are doing whether it’s participating in forums, leaving a comment on someone’s blog, participating in Yahoo Answers to ensure success you need to communicate effectively to people by leaving a quality post, comment, or answer. Once you start doing this you will start to see traffic building on your blog. Remember it may take time to build traffic, but it will increase over time if you follow these tips. Watching the traffic grow on your blog can be very exciting!

I do get referrals from Twitter so it seems to be working. Some of it could be people clicking on the link to my site in my profile. I do think it is a way of getting your post out there.

In this method, you can also have your main keyword(s) embedded in your link. Article Directory

These are mainly the most important ways to get traffic. There are other ways not so well-known but are effective too: Flickr, google images, dmoz, guest posts on other blogs, youtube, blogs communities, etc.
To my way of thinking we can´t use all these tools or ways to get traffic at the same time. I think it´s better to focus on some of them.
What do you think? Which ways to get traffic do you prefer?

Hey David!
These are the ways I have been driving traffic. I think commenting on others blogs is my favorite as I learn stuff as I read other peoples blog and I like connecting with people. Forums are good too. You are right though we can’t do them all so just pick a few different ways that you like that work and perfect them.
I actually haven’t tried Flickr or google images. Its seems interesting I just haven’t tried it. Maybe someday

I think one of the big things you’re missing is search engines. Keyword research, blogging for specific keywords for search engines and so on is all free and it’ll help you in the short AND long run.

[...] of Traffic you can probably make a bit of money with In-Text Advertising, but again the key word is Traffic. Now some people might not like the looks of In-Text Links on their site. Its not that it looks bad, [...]
Nice comprehensive list. Social networks are the future of blog promotion in my opinion. As a blogger the more time you can spend interacting with readers in person, well as in person as we computer types get the less reliant we become on traditional search engine traffic and Google’s finicky page rankings and listings. Nice journal tip which I think I’ll try, in conjunction with keeping a journal for all of the methods of driving traffic one needs lots of patience. There is no quick fix for traffic and over time the leg work promoting posts starts to pay dividends.

You are definately right about the patience thing. It does take some time to build traffic. It has taken me a bit of time. The key is to keep pluging away. I really do enjoy the interation with readers and people from around the world through blogging

Twitter has opened the door for your traffic to increase. Today’s web designers need a broader base in order to improve their client/cost ratio.

Yeah it works actually. I mean you can go on Yahoo answers answer a few questions add you website and it does actually work. I did this a little bit for a while. Important thing is to really answer the question. Its fun and I found it actually rewarding to actually help people. I would go on there and answer questions about blogging. Give it a shot. You can also ask a question too.
